We present to the reader the first complete edition in Russian of Max Weber’s classic work “Economy and Society”. This book was rightfully recognized in 1997 by the International Sociological Association as the main sociological book of the 20th century. Since the history of sociology as a science is, in fact, the history of sociology in the 20th century, we can safely say that this is the main sociological book in general. The book is divided into four volumes: volume I “Sociology”, volume II “Communities”, volume III “Law” ", volume IV "Dominion". "Economy and Society" teaches research methodology, provides brilliant examples of sociological analysis and leads to the heights of cultural and historical synthesis. The initiator and ideologist of the project to publish Max Weber's book in Russian and the editor of the translation was a Doctor of Philosophy , Professor of the National Research University Higher School of Economics L.G. Ionin.The book is the first volume of a four-volume edition of Max Weber’s epoch-making work “Economy and Society.” This is the first complete translation into Russian. Volume I characterizes the basic concepts of understanding sociology in general, formulates the principles of economic sociology, gives a brief outline of the sociology of domination (in particular, charismatic and bureaucratic types of domination) and outlines ways to develop a new concept of social structure and social stratification for its time. In fact, this volume formulates concepts that will serve the reader as a guiding thread for understanding the most important problems of the social sciences, considered in subsequent volumes of this classic work, which are now being prepared for publication. The publication is intended for sociologists, political scientists, historians, economists, and in general for specialists of a wide range social and human sciences, as well as for readers interested in the problems of social and cultural development of our time.
