Nowadays they rarely write about love so simply and masterfully, so easily and cleverly, so accurately and, most importantly, without tears. (“Zeit”) For the first time in Russian, a novel by contemporary Swiss writer and actress Monique Schwitter, which in 2015 was awarded the most prestigious literary prize in Switzerland and was shortlisted for the German Book Prize. The heroine of the novel - a director and writer, a mother of two children - accidentally learns that her first lover, Peter, jumped out of a window five years ago. This forces her to remember, relive and record the history of her relationship with Peter, and then with the rest of the men in her life. A separate chapter is devoted to each of them, and all but one bear the names of the biblical apostles. The past flows into the present, and the question of the essence of love becomes vitally important for the heroine.
