Fourteen stories by contemporary Swiss writer and actress Monique Schwitter are dedicated to human memory. These are charming stories about chance meetings and partings forever, about memories of one’s own and others, pleasant and painful, vague and tangible, about what happened and what never happened. The collection was translated by a team of participants in the translation seminar at the Goethe-Institut under the guidance of Professor I. WITH. Alekseeva. Published in Russian for the first time.
Why do we forget about something after three seconds, but remember about something all our lives? Where is the line between memory, fantasy and reality? Monique Schwitter writes about this with talent, simplicity, touching and irony. Her characters are recognizable and full of life. As one critic noted, “she honestly deserves the dinner with Dürrenmatt, which she fantasizes about in the last story.”
Monique Schwitter, with a few short, unobtrusively poetic phrases, masterfully creates such portraits of people that we immediately recognize them ... She shows how memories deafen her heroes, and the fragments of these bombs dig into us, the readers.
