Edogawa Rampo is the pseudonym of Taro Hiroya, the founder of the detective genre in Japanese literature. He played the same role in his homeland as Edgar Allan Poe played in the West. However, the work of the Japanese writer is deeply national. Literary critic Koresuke Ishigami notes: “If Poe is a writer of the 19th century, then Edogawa Rampo is a child of the 20th century. If the first is a great mystic, then the second is no less a great mystifier.” Rampo's stories are a brilliant example of the so-called intuitive detective story. The creative heritage contains 25 volumes. The time has come to introduce the Russian reader to the works of Rampo. This collection includes the most famous stories of this writer.
