In the 70s of the 4th century, the east of Europe was shocked by the invasion of a previously unknown tribe - the Huns. Nobody knew who they were or where they came from. There were probably very few of them, but the hordes of barbarians who lived in the steppes of the Don, Dnieper and Danube, frightened by them, set off in horror and rushed into the borders of the Roman Empire, marking the beginning of a great migration of peoples. Christians called the Huns “the scourge of God” and believed that they were sent to them for their sins. The newcomers ruled Europe for about a hundred years, competing in power with Rome and Byzantium, and then their nomadic empire crumbled overnight, and the Huns disappeared as suddenly as they had appeared. No one knew where they went either. Only modern science has been able to shed some light on the origin of the Huns and their future fate. But even today, not all questions of Hunnic history and archeology have been resolved. This book tells about the Huns - their roots, their short-lived greatness and the history of their study. Writer Oleg Ivik and archaeologist Vladimir Klyuchnikov collected in it almost everything that is known about this mysterious people.
