And she tells a story that began many years ago, in April 1945, when she, forty-year-old Lena Brucker, hid the young deserter Bremer in her apartment - and fell in love with him. Germany has capitulated, but Lena does not want to let her lover go. Every day she invents stories about new victories of the Wehrmacht and feeds him vegetable soup and acorn coffee, as it was in wartime. This continues until Bremer decides to escape.
