The poem ANOUSH is about the tragic love of the young shepherd Saro for the girl Anush. The poet reveals the spiritual richness of the characters, the high dramatic intensity of their feelings. Deeply depicting the spiritual world of the heroes, Tumanyan at the same time reveals the national character of the people, their psychology. It is no coincidence that V. Bryusov noted that for readers of other nations, familiarity with Tumanyan’s poems (for example, with his ANUSH) provides more knowledge of Armenia and its life than thick volumes of special studies can provide. Based on Tumanyan's poem ANUSH, a national opera was written, the most beloved and popular among the people - ANUSH by A. Tigranyan.
