Robert Cappa (1913-1954) was a man who changed people's ideas about war, showing all its horrors with the help of his photographs. He was the first war photographer to photograph the war from a previously unknown angle, allowing the viewer to experience the very essence of military operations. His photographs conveyed both the desperate bravery of soldiers going to their deaths and the plight of civilians. Robert Capa's style significantly “raised the bar” of photography, largely influencing modern photojournalism. Many photojournalists covered the landing of the Allied forces in Normandy. However, most of the pictures do not give a true picture of this military operation. Nine photographs by Robert Capa, taken directly at the scene of events and conveying the feelings of soldiers under a hail of bullets, are considered a true masterpiece. Only Capa, with his piercing photographs, was able to talk about the sacrifices that were made by the soldiers in the name of victory. Their strength lay in the fact that they made it possible to literally look into the face of each fighter, to understand the feelings with which the soldiers went to their death. And this influenced the viewer more than dry printed reports. The reporter's life was short, but it served as a shining example of courage and dedication to his chosen field. The meaning of his life was photography; from each of his photographs he sought to create a “story” that everyone could understand. He really succeeded, because he was incredibly talented. He hated war and violence, but did not try to understand their causes, but only displayed their terrible fruits, not unreasonably believing that every photograph depicting war would obviously be anti-war. Capa said: “Many people live too well to understand those who suffer. A photograph is a document, looking at which someone with eyes and a heart begins to feel that not all is well in the world. To wake them up, to break through their indifference - that is my goal.”
