The change of autocrats in the 19th century, the liberation of the peasants, the period of “soft” monarchical reaction, pre-revolutionary cataclysms, revolution, socialism, post-Soviet metamorphoses - all these historical phenomena were accompanied by the overthrow of former idols. But the name of the great commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov (1729-1800), written in gold in our chronicle, was never erased from it. The key to understanding Suvorov’s special place in Russian history can be found in the words of the commander himself: “A good name belongs to every honest person; but I concluded my good name in the glory of my Fatherland, and all my deeds tended towards its prosperity. Self-love, often obedient to the impulses of fleeting passions, has never controlled my actions. I forgot myself where I should have thought about the benefit general My life was a harsh school, but my innocent morals and natural generosity made my work easier: my feelings were free, and I myself was firm.” Suvorov devoted more than 50 years of his life to military activities, participated in seven wars, without knowing defeat, fought 60 battles, The most brilliant pages of Russian weapons are associated with his name. Ahead of his time, Suvorov was able to develop and enrich the best traditions of Russian military art. They were embodied in the famous Suvorov manual - the book “The Science of Victory”. This work summarizes not only Suvorov’s rich combat experience accumulated over many years of military career, it can be considered as an excellent tactical manual for officers and soldiers. Suvorov is an outstanding commander because he was able to discover and develop progressive trends in the combat practice of his era, consolidate and improve new forms and methods of warfare, despite the then dominant linear tactics. He expressed the essence of his innovations in the laconic formula “eye, speed, pressure.” The application of this principle required personal initiative, mutual assistance, and determination from officers and soldiers. The commander did not strive to oust the enemy from the territory, but to completely defeat him as a result of a sharp change in the situation in the theater of military operations. Surprise was achieved by Suvorov by the speed of movement and rapid maneuvering of troops. “One minute,” said the commander, “decides the outcome of the battle, one hour - the success of the campaign... I act not in hours, but in minutes.” He had a brilliant ability to cover the components the war as a whole, to compare them with the foreign policy situation, to assess the emerging general and specific situation, to highlight the main knot, by cutting which it was possible to decide the fate of the campaign. Suvorov, like no one else, knew how to use all available means of war to achieve victory, develop and transform small tactical successes into strategic success. His personal human qualities and purely democratic style of behavior were also of great importance. In the age of feudal regulations, uniforms and regalia that personified class and official privileges, Suvorov’s white shirt, in which he appeared in the most dangerous places of battle, invariably inspired the troops. All his contemporaries noted his remarkable oratorical abilities, laconicism and aphoristic speech. For Russian soldiers he is always remained the father-commander.
