The book was prepared on the basis of the classic work of the outstanding Russian biblical scholar, theologian, professor of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy Alexander Pavlovich Lopukhin (1852–1904). In his monumental work Biblical History. Old Testament”, which went through 20 editions until 1917, he collected and analyzed all the biblical-chronological, archaeological, historical and ethnographic material available by the end of the 19th century. A. P. Lopukhin intended his work for the widest range of people, since, in his opinion, “biblical history can become an inexhaustible source of moral and higher historical education for any person more or less capable of a serious mental life.”
