All the characters in the novel “Cemetery Dirt” are dead, but are they at rest? The afterlife did not at all lessen their ardent interest in news, fresh gossip and rumors from the world of the living. Lying underground, they slander, mean, lie, fawn and settle scores almost more enthusiastically than they once did on earth. However, they can’t do anything - they can only talk, and therefore the whole novel is written entirely as a polylogue. Book-theatre, Martin O Kain's filthy graveyard classic of Irish literature is a true example of ruthless comedy, a museum of human types and at the same time a penetrating reflection on the transience and absurdity of human fuss.
