The collection consists of already canonical texts on gender and queer theory by such leading world theorists as Judith Butler, Jack Halberstam, Raven Connell and Lee Edelman, published in Russian for the first time. They are complemented by a socio-cultural review by Eric Fassin on the development of gender studies in France. The articles are united by the idea of a new understanding of the heteronormative order with the help of a decentering, so-called oblique look, how “queer” can be translated when it comes to its analytical potential. The authors analyze the formation of queer and heteronormative subjects, the genesis of their desires and power relations, from which the essence of any subject is inseparable, namely, the constitutive interaction of hetero- and homosexuality, lesbian subjects, masculinity without men, the hierarchical system of masculinity in a patriarchal society and ideological appropriation of childhood in Western culture. The texts are preceded by an overview of the socio-political and theoretical development of queer.

The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
