Hanna Krall (b. 1935) is a writer and journalist, one of the most prominent representatives of Polish “literature of fact” and a brilliant reporter. In the book “White Maria” the world is torn apart, and the reader is invited to put it together from fragments that intertwine stories about Poles, Jews, Germans, Russians during the Second World War, before and after it, stories about victims and executioners, about resettlement, denunciations, murders - and, on the other hand, about selflessness, benevolence, the ability to risk one’s life to save others. Hanna Krall combines documentary truth with fiction. “White Maria” is an exciting story about the destinies of people, strung on the thread of a cruel, difficult time. The book is being published in Russian for the first time.
