Former FSB officer Ilya Meshcheryakov was lucky to survive in Chechnya, despite the fact that he was captured and the militants cut off his hand. Upon release, the disability officer resigns. Автор майстерно малює портрет людини, яка, переживши жахи війни, намагається знайти своє місце в світі, але замість цього занурюється в безодню ненависті та насильства. Ілля Мещеряков – складний персонаж, чий шлях від героя до антигероя змушує читача задуматися про моральність, справедливість і наслідки війни. Книга не лише розкриває теми націоналізму та радикалізму, але й ставить питання про те, як травми минулого можуть вплинути на наше майбутнє. Хоча текст перекладено з використанням штучного інтелекту, що іноді призводить до незначних недоліків, загальна якість перекладу не заважає сприйняттю глибокої та емоційної історії. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто готовий до складних тем і не боїться заглиблюватися в темряву людської душі.
