The novels of the fifth volume of the Complete Works of Boileau-Narcejac, relatively speaking, seem to continue the tradition of Russian classical prose on French soil. One can safely say in the words of Dostoevsky about the main characters of their novels “Sea Gate”, “Delicate Tremens” and “Widowers” , that they “came out of Gogol’s “Overcoat.” The “little man” who dies in a collision with omnipotent fate, his complete inability to fight and overcome tragic circumstances, is the main theme of the novels we included in the fifth volume of collected works. At the same time, the authors remain faithful verified, subtle psychologism of characters, their inherent inimitably rich imagination in creating complex and unusually interesting intrigue.
