According to P. D. Uspensky, symbolism, in which symbols have a strictly defined meaning, is pseudo-symbolism. The key to the Tarot, according to the author, is hidden in the imagination, so you are about to read, perhaps, the most unusual description of the known cards. You will find in Ouspensky’s “sketches” echoes of the thoughts of many authors who wrote on the topic of Tarot, such as Saint Martin, Eliphas Levi and Dr. Papus. As well as other thinkers who never wrote about the Tarot, such as Plato, Gichtel, Nietzsche, and, nevertheless, came to the discovery of the same fundamental principles of the structure of the universe that underlie the Tarot. Uspensky is convinced that the symbol can serve to convey our intuitive understanding and lead to something new only until its meaning is finally determined. True symbols are constantly in the process of creation, as they are closely related to the inner workings of the one who perceives them. The author admits that some descriptions of the arcana express only his subjective view, and invites you to take a fresh look at familiar cards and, perhaps, offer your own interpretation of the symbols.
