The Vedas are the sacred scriptures of ancient India, a set of mysterious hymns to the gods, created by the legendary seers-rishis. Over the course of centuries and millennia, the meaning of ancient knowledge was lost, as a result a wide variety of interpretations of the hymns arose, sometimes vague and contradictory. This volume presents the “psychological” approach to the interpretation of the Vedas given by Sri Aurobindo, the form of presentation of which differs from that accepted in modern European Indology. Here we encounter not a strict rationalistic study, presented in the dry language of a scientific treatise, but an expression of a mystical vision that seeks to penetrate into the very depths of the secret knowledge and thoughts of ancient scripture.
