The books of the English writer Daphne Du Maurier (1907–1989) have become classics of 20th-century literature. A master of a subtle psychological portrait and a virtuoso of intrigue, Du Maurier, like no one else, knows how to keep the reader in suspense. It is not for nothing that one of the admirers of her talent was film director Alfred Hitchcock, who based famous film thrillers on her works, including “Rebecca”, “Birds”, “Jamaica Inn”... In the novel “La Bohème” (1949; previously in Russian the novel was published under entitled "Parasite") it tells about the life of the artistic bohemia of England between the two world wars. Daphne Du Maurier's characters are two stepsisters and a brother. They grew up in a family of famous artists - an opera singer and a dancer. From their parents, the young Delaneys will inherit a spark of talent and devote themselves to art, but for each of them creativity will become a way to escape from the problems and passions of real life.
