The typical American’s immediate impressions of the seemingly ordinary scenes of everyday life of the inhabitants of Australia, India and South Africa are replaced by deep thoughts about historical events that have long sunk into oblivion; he openly ridicules the customs of modern life rejected by his nature, admires the beauty of ancient legends, challenges the reasonableness of life-tested stereotypes of behavior and even laws. But in every line of the narrative one can feel the freshness of perception, the skill of the writer, unique humor and irrepressible energy.
