The novel “Rubber Bands,” written in 1953, is one of the first works of the French writer Alain Robbe-Grillet (born 1922), now considered a classic example of the so-called “new novel,” designed in its time to overcome the traditional purpose of literature. Hiding behind a very entertaining detective intrigue, recreating the structure of a detective novel, the writer poses and solves many creative problems here - from creating a “poetics of the gaze” to debunking the “Oedipus complex.”
