McSweeney's is a quarterly American literary almanac founded in 1998 to publish alternative short fiction. At first, McSweeney's published unformatted stories that were rejected by other publications with too good taste. However, soon from a marginal and small-circulation almanac it turned into a prestigious and fashionable one, and the stories published in it won more than one prize in the field of literature. And now leading US writers compete with each other for the honor of seeing their works under its cover. In the final collection “The Best of McSweeney's” you will find the brightest, most artsy and surprising short stories from the first ten issues of the almanac. The book includes 27 stories written by 27 writers and translated by 9 translators. We ourselves are curious to see what they came up with.
