The fearless hunter Allan Quartermain, nicknamed Macumazahn, which means “the man who rises after midnight,” never liked the dampness and stiffness of his native England, preferring the hot, dusty expanse of the African veldt; he was attracted by the unknown, full of dangers, lands of the Dark Continent, where simple-minded and cruel people live, like all children of nature, where herds of wild buffalo roam and ferocious lions roar at night. This life was to the liking of Quartermain, the favorite hero of the wonderful writer Henry Rider Haggard, who dedicated many books to the brave hunter. The cycle of adventures of Allan Quartermain continues with “Marie”, “Child of the Storm”, “The Doomed”, “Magepa nicknamed Antelope”. These works are published in new, complete translations, with the notes of English publishers preserved (late 19th century). The book is illustrated with classic drawings by Arthur Michael and wonderful graphics by Elena Shipitsyna.
