The book contains for the first time in such a volume critical reviews of the work of V.V. Nabokov (1899–1977), objectively representing the features of the aesthetic reception of the writer’s work throughout his life’s journey: first in the literary circles of the Russian diaspora, then in the Western literary world. It was these reviews (both positive and poisonously negative) that accompanied the first publications of Nabokov's works by his contemporaries, critics and writers. Among them are such outstanding literary figures as G. Adamovich, J. Aikhenwald, P. Bicilli, V. Veidle, M. Osorgin, G. Struve, V. Khodasevich, P. Ackroyd, J. Updike, E. Burgess, S. Lem, J.K. Oates, A. Robbe-Grillet, J.-P. Sartre, E. Wilson and others. The uniqueness of the collected factual material (often inaccessible even to specialists) turns the collection of articles and reviews (as well as essays, parodies, fragments of letters) into a necessary guide for a deeper understanding of the Nabokov phenomenon, into a kind of anthology representing history world criticism for half a century, showing literary mores, aesthetic preferences and tastes of an entire era. Original Djvu: The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
