After the artist first saw this creepy watchman, he ruined the canvas. Then the girl Tessie, who was posing for him, told about a terrible dream in which this same watchman was the driver of a hearse, and in it it was he, the artist, who lay still alive in a coffin. Later, he himself began to have terrible dreams.
And all this was connected with the watchman, who was all “kind of fat and soft.” One day he asked the artist: “Have you found the Yellow Sign?” This became a harbinger of trouble.
The only story translated into Russian from the collection of Robert Chambers “The King in Yellow” (“The King in Yellow”, 1895) , considered the best.
