The imprisonment of the “Tsarevich” in the harbor of the German colony continued for fourteen long months. Time, which was passing so quickly, and in Port Arthur was aggravating the siege every day, seemed to have stopped here in Qingdao. The painful feeling of captivity did not leave the sailors and officers. Again and again, everyone experienced in their own way the circumstances of that decisive battle on July 28 and the entire war. The awareness of many missed opportunities and technical problems weighed heavily on every sailor’s soul. It was painful to feel isolated from Port Arthur and unable to help the squadron, which, being so close - some 200 miles away - was slowly dying.
