Dmitry Narkisovich Mamin-Sibiryak (1852–1912) - the great Russian writer was born and lived most of his life in the Urals. He entered the history of Russian literature primarily as the author of “Ural” novels, which brought him wide fame. Everything about them seemed unusual to readers: the very flavor of Siberian life - nature, everyday life, traditions, folk speech, and new heroes - breeders, Old Believers, hunters, and their strong, strong-willed characters.A. P. Chekhov spoke about the works of Mamin-Sibiryak: “There, in the Urals, everyone must be like this: no matter how much they are pounded in a mortar, they are all grain, not flour. When, reading his books, you find yourself in the company of these tough guys - strong, tenacious, resilient and dark-soil people - it becomes somehow fun. In Siberia I met such people, but in order to portray them, one must be born and grow up among them.” Mamin-Sibiryak is a truly people’s writer. In his works, he soulfully and truthfully reflected the spirit of the Russian people, their age-old destiny, their national characteristics - power, scope, hard work, love of life, cheerfulness. This is one of the most optimistic writers of his era.
