First published in the magazine “Russian Thought”, 1885, No. 6* During the writer’s lifetime, it was reprinted as part of the “Ural Stories”. The original title of the story was “Knots” (From stories about Ural antiquity). The manuscript under this title is kept in the Sverdlovsk Regional Archives. On the first page of this manuscript there is an inscription in Mamin-Sibiryak’s handwriting: “March 13, 1885 Yekaterinburg”, at the end of the manuscript: “April 15, 1885 Yekaterinburg”. In addition, at the top of the first sheet of the manuscript there is an autograph inscription: “Printed under the title “From Ural Antiquity” in the third volume of “Ural Stories”, published by the “Publisher” company (D. N. Mamin-Sibiryak. “Manuscripts and Correspondence”, M. , 1949, No. 35, p. 30).
