Two stories included in the book of the famous writer Andrei Alekseevich Molchanov are a kind of artistic documents of the late 80s of the twentieth century, twice a turning point for us. They reflect the picture of organized crime emerging in Russia, the merger of bureaucracy with crime, the formation of structures trying to make a profit, relying on the shadow reserves of the state economy. At the same time, languishing under the yoke of outdated communist dogmas and successfully making money on speculation and shortages, business and energetic people of that time still naively believed that they would be able to realize themselves by leaving for the West, which seemed to be a paradise of freedoms and opportunities.
