This book by Harald Karlovich Graf (1885–1966), senior officer of the destroyer Novik, captain of the 2nd rank, participant in the Russo-Japanese, World War I and Civil Wars, emigrant since 1921, is the first part of his a lot of work - “On Novik.” The Baltic Fleet in War and Revolution,” published in Germany in 1922. The success of Novik was phenomenal, the circulation quickly sold out, while one part of it was exported to the RSFSR, and the other firmly settled in private and public libraries of the Russian emigration. The book was read by ordinary people, naval officers of the Russian Empire, which had sunk into history, grand dukes, liberals of the Russian diaspora, who in life had no interest in naval service. Even teachers of Soviet military academies and employees of the OGPU on duty read it... This publication describes the period from the beginning of the First World War to the end of 1916.
