Contemporaries called Boris Poplavsky (1903–1935) “the prince of the kingdom of Montparnasse.” His gift was highly valued by Vl. Khodasevich, G. Ivanov, G. Adamovich, G. Gazdanov, N. Berberova, other prominent figures of the Russian diaspora. “If emigrant literature gave Poplavsky, then this alone is enough to justify it at all future trials,” said D. Merezhkovsky. For the first time, the poetic legacy of the “first Russian surrealist” is published in such full volume and in the way the author intended: during his lifetime he himself compiled seven of his poetry collections, but only one of them was able to be published - “Flags”, and not in that form as intended. The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
