"Solntsepyok" is a fascinating book by the famous Ukrainian writer Vasyl Stefanyk. In this work, the writer tells a story about the life of peasants in western Ukraine at the end of the 19th century. The whole book is permeated by the theme of love, loyalty and inexorable progress, which forces the heroes to compete with their fears and customs.
The main character, a young boy named Oleksa, realizes that his freedom-hungry spirit does not fit into the framework of the old traditional community. Together with their beloved Angela, they face difficulties, envy and enmity of neighbors.
The reader, while reading Solntsepyok, feels the warmth of the pages, the smell of wormwood and earth, feels the emotional pain and joy of the heroes, sympathizing with them in every trial. This book provides an opportunity to deepen one's understanding of the Ukrainian soul and traditions that are still relevant today.
