Annotation from Gautier Sans Avoir (revised the e-book and proofread the paper editions): The second book by English author Jim Corbett (1875–1955) describes his hunt for the famous man-eating leopard, from 1918 to 1926. terrorized the population over an area of five hundred square miles in northern India. This leopard (known as "Rudraprayag") was mentioned in the press in a number of countries, including Hong Kong and South Africa. The beast, active at night, wandered through the villages, breaking down the doors of huts, gnawing and dragging people away. For eight years, all night life in the kingdom of the leopard froze; in more than 70 villages, 125 people were torn to pieces. Despite government awards for the destruction of the leopard and the long efforts of many hunters, it was not possible to destroy it. Jim Corbett also tracked the leopard for a long time, and was also tracked by it himself, constantly finding night tracks of the animal even at his doorstep. Ultimately, the cannibal slayer was victorious.
