To the horror of the patrician Lord Vetinari, a new invention has arrived in Ankh-Morpork - a huge, clanking monstrous machine that harnesses the power of the four elements - fire, water, air and earth. Now the view of Ankh-Morpork is more of an image of an astonished crowd of people; some of them caught the spirit of the times and armed themselves with notepads, and the especially prudent - with raincoats. Moist von Lipwig is not one of those people who likes hard work. His intervention as Master of the Post Office, the Royal Bank and the Mint is of course of vital importance... but depends largely on words, which fortunately have no weight and need no lubrication.
