The collection of works by Antonin Artaud (1896–1948), a French actor, director, poet, playwright, prose writer, philosopher and publicist, includes works of various genres: surrealist plays, theatrical manifestos, lectures and Artaud’s main work “The Theater and Its Double” - presentation of the theatrical system in combination with a philosophical picture of the world. The book “The Theater and Its Double” is presented in a new translation that adequately conveys the poetic language and intellectual depth of the original. The remaining works are published in Russian for the first time. Artaud's texts are provided with detailed commentaries. The Appendix includes works on Artaud by the English art critic Martin Eslin and the Georgian philosopher Merab Mamardashvili.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
