Альберто Анджела майстерно переносить читача у світ Риму 115 року нашої ери, де повсякденне життя мешканців виявляється настільки схожим на наше, що часом здається, ніби ми живемо в одному й тому ж місті, лише з різницею в тисячолітті. Автор вміло поєднує історичні факти з живими описами, які дозволяють відчути атмосферу того часу: від метушні на вулицях до розкішних званих вечерь. Особливо вразила частина про судові слухання та терми, де Анджела показує, як соціальні проблеми та людські емоції залишаються незмінними через століття.
