The action of the historical novel by Y. Kraszewski “The Time of Sigismund” takes place in the last year of the reign of Sigismund Augustus (1548–1572), a king from the Jagiellonian dynasty. The author gives an extensive panorama of life in this period; different segments of the population, historical figures and events are shown. The main character of the novel is a fifteen-year-old boy Maciej Skowronok. Forced to hide from persecution, he comes to Krakow, becomes a Jacques... The novel describes his adventurous life and it is partly intertwined with historical events. This novel can safely be included among the best works of Kraszewski. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.

Роман Ю. Крашевського «Час Сигізмунда» - це справжня подорож у минуле, яка дозволяє читачеві відчути атмосферу епохи правління Сигізмунда Августа. Автор майстерно описує різні верстви населення, їхні переживання та мрії, що робить сюжет надзвичайно багатогранним і цікавим. Головний герой, п'ятнадцятирічний Мацей Сковронок, стає символом боротьби та надії в умовах несправедливості та переслідувань. Його пригоди в Кракові, переплетені з історичними подіями, створюють динамічний та захоплюючий наратив. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, це не заважає насолоджуватися глибиною і красою історії. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цінує історичну прозу та хоче дізнатися більше про важливі моменти в історії Польщі!
