The action of the historical novel by Y. Kraszewski “The Time of Sigismund” takes place in the last year of the reign of Sigismund Augustus (1548–1572), a king from the Jagiellonian dynasty. The author gives an extensive panorama of life in this period; different segments of the population, historical figures and events are shown. The main character of the novel is a fifteen-year-old boy Maciej Skowronok. Forced to hide from persecution, he comes to Krakow, becomes a Jacques... The novel describes his adventurous life and it is partly intertwined with historical events. This novel can safely be included among the best works of Kraszewski. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.

Його пригоди, сповнені небезпек і несподіванок, переплітаються з важливими історичними подіями, що робить роман ще більш захоплюючим. Крашевський вміло поєднує вигадку з історичною правдою, створюючи глибокий і багатогранний твір, який залишає по собі слід у серці читача. Рекомендую цю книгу всім, хто цінує якісну літературу та хоче дізнатися більше про історію Польщі!
