The plot of the story takes the reader to the distant future. Earthly humanity survived a thermonuclear war and a planetary cosmic catastrophe at the beginning of the 21st century, as a result of which the remnants of humanity rethought their moral and ethical norms and values, and built a new society based on the principles of justice and brotherhood - the Brotherhood of Labor. At the initial stages of the formation of a new earthly society, a group of renegades broke away from humanity and were forcibly relocated to a planet in the nearest star system. Here, a planetary totalitarian state subsequently arose - the Community - which actively entered into confrontation with the renewed Earth and strived for cosmic domination. The security of earthly society is entrusted to special Security Systems of the Society, whose tasks include a wide range of problems: from the biological protection of humanity on Earth and the prevention of meteorite and asteroid danger in near-Earth space, to counterintelligence activities and ensuring space security on the borders of the Solar system. The leadership of the Security Systems becomes aware of the plans of the ruling circles of the Community to forcibly seize Earth's space colonies and develop for this purpose a new type of weapon, against which earthlings have no protection. In order to obtain information about this weapon, an employee of the Special Department is sent to the Community, who faces difficult trials on an alien planet and in an alien society, where he unexpectedly finds allies and love, and understands that events are taking place here, far from Earth, about which people know absolutely nothing.
