On Christmas Day 1893, the entire population of the small mining town of Abandon in the Colorado mountains disappeared without a trace. All the men, women and children seemed to evaporate, leaving the festive tables laid in their cold houses. The search group sent to search for people did not return. Автор майстерно створює напружену обстановку, де читач відчуває холод і безмовність гір, а також напругу, що виникає від пошуків розгадки зникнення мешканців містечка. Сюжет розгортається навколо професора історії та його доньки, які намагаються розкрити таємницю, що залишалася нерозкритою протягом більше ста років. Кожна сторінка наповнена інтригуючими відкриттями та несподіваними поворотами, які тримають у напрузі до самого кінця. Однак варто зазначити, що переклад тексту, хоч і переважно якісний, іноді містить незначні недоліки, які можуть відволікати від читання.
