For the first time in Russian, the last novel by the famous French writer and biographer Henri Troyat. 1869. More than thirty years have passed since Pushkin's death. But until now, admirers of his talent cannot come to terms with the early and absurd death of the greatest of poets. Alexander Rybakov, a graduate of the Imperial Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, is obsessed with a crazy idea: he sees the goal of his life in fulfilling the most important and urgent, truly supernatural mission: to destroy the murderer of Pushkin. He is sure: this noble act will correct the mistake of fate, and with its help a sacred act of retribution will be accomplished. Having learned that Georges Dantes is leading a brilliant life as a senator of the Second Empire in Paris, the young man rushes headlong there and begins the hunt. But who is our hero going to take revenge on - a cruel criminal who does not think at all about what he has done, or an accidental murderer, a repentant sinner, a man who certainly wanted to defend his honor?

Henri Troyat is a famous French novelist and biographer, an outstanding researcher of historical and cultural heritage of Russia and France. Troyat created more than a hundred books. “As soon as I finish a novel, I am carried away by a new one,” admitted the author, who was distinguished by his exceptional ability to work. The writer was awarded the Goncourt Prize for his novel "The Spider", elected a member of the French Academy, awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honor and other awards. Being Russian by origin, having connected all his work with Russia, Troyat gained extraordinary popularity in our country.

A novel that is read quickly and easily, but with true pleasure. There is nothing superfluous here; every detail is clearly integrated into the overall flow of the narrative and opens the way for the moral development of the heroes. This story is not moralizing, but after reading it, everyone will receive a lot of benefit and pleasure. www.evene.fr The terrible death of the greatest of Russian poets of that era shocked his compatriots so much that the crazy fantasies of the young champion of justice I invented could well turn out to be characteristic in reality for his contemporaries and fellow countrymen.Henri Troyat
