The book publishes a course of lectures by the classic of French and world sociology Emile Durkheim (1858–1917), which he read at the universities of Bordeaux and Paris. This is one of Durkheim's most important texts devoted to moral and pedagogical issues. The course of lectures was first published in France in 1925 and received worldwide recognition and wide popularity.
