Before us is a philosophical walk by Alexei Makushinsky through the places where the main “characters” of the book lived - Nikolai Berdyaev and the French theologian Jacques Maritain. While walking, the author falls into the past, remembers and quotes poets, philosophers and artists (among them: Lev Shestov and his students, Rodin and Rilke, Charles Péguy, Marina Tsvetaeva, Albert Camus), every now and then diving back into modernity and with the talent of a true novelist noticing everything around - from the red pants of a fellow traveler to candy wrappers on the floor of a cafe. Reading such prose is work, rewarded by a feeling of the amazing completeness of the world, which, as in Homeric times, can still be conveyed through words.

Його спостереження за навколишнім світом, від деталей до загального контексту, створюють враження, що ти сам перебуваєш на цій прогулянці. Книга спонукає до роздумів про сенс життя, місце людини у світі та важливість думки. Хоча переклад тексту іноді має недоліки, це не зменшує загального враження від читання. Рекомендую всім, хто цінує філософію, літературу та глибокі роздуми про життя!
