Marc Bloch (1886–1944) is a French historian, author of works on medieval France and general problems of historical methodology, founder of his own historical school. Member of the French Resistance, shot by the Gestapo in 1944. This book was born from a question asked by a child: “Dad, explain to me why history is needed?” And indeed, why? What is this dead knowledge about what happened before? What do we care about this? Mark Blok’s book “Apology of History” is the answer to these questions and justification for the historian’s right to practice his craft, so that knowledge of the past helps a person “live better.”
