The three-volume “History of the Crusades” by J.-F. Michaud (1767-1839) earned a reputation as a classic during the author's lifetime. Michaud was able to present a wide panorama of the religious wars of the 11th-13th centuries with genuine artistry. and he did it so comprehensively and impressively that even today, in the context of a new round of religious and ethnic cataclysms, his book has not lost its relevance. The proposed translation takes into account the shortcomings of previous translations and makes an attempt, while significantly reducing the text, to preserve all the features of the author’s extraordinary talent. The book is supplied with appendices prepared by J.-F. Michaud, illustrations by G. Doré and the “Map of the Crusades” compiled by the translator.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program.
