Over the past twenty years, I have written a series of books about my training with Don Juan Matus, a magician from the Yaqui Indian tribe of Mexico. In my books, I talked about how he taught me magic, but magic not in the usual sense - that is, not in the sense of possessing supernatural powers or using witchcraft manipulations, rituals and spells to obtain magical effects. From Don Juan's point of view, magic is a way of realizing certain theoretical and practical premises concerning the nature of perception and its role in shaping the universe around us.
