Viktor Borisovich Shklovsky is known primarily as an outstanding literary critic, one of the founders of the legendary OPOYAZ (Society for the Study of Poetic Language), a theorist of the formal school, whose ideas have firmly entered into scientific use, the author of biographies of Mayakovsky, Leo Tolstoy, Eisenstein, and the artist Pavel Fedotov. But few people know that his own destiny unfolded like an adventure novel. “Sentimental Journey” is an autobiographical book by Viktor Shklovsky, written by him in exile and published in Berlin in 1923. In it, Shklovsky talks about the events of the recent past - the revolution and the Civil War.
