The new book by Elena Egorova, a member of the Russian Writers' Union, is addressed to children from 8 years old and adults. The series of stories about the childhood of A. S. Pushkin is unique in that it represents the first experience of a living artistic and documentary narrative, fully and accurately reflecting the life of the young genius and his family in 1799–1811. The book takes into account all the known facts of the biography of Pushkin and the people who those who surrounded him in childhood, the peculiarities of life of different strata of society at the beginning of the 19th century. Folklore materials related to the described era and places of childhood of the great poet, memories of his contemporaries, and hypotheses of authoritative Pushkin scholars are widely used. Fiction in the book is used to “reconstruct” events about which information is incomplete or fragmentary. It is based on the author’s many years of in-depth study of the works and letters of A. S. Pushkin, scientific articles and archival materials. The highlight of the book is the illustrations of young artists from different regions of Russia, winners and laureates of the open competition “Our Young Pushkin”. The second edition of the book is supplemented by a small the poem “Yuletide Tales of Arina Rodionovna,” which is based on two fairy-tale plots recorded by A. S. Pushkin in January 1825 from the words of nanny A. R. Yakovleva, but not used by him.
