Richard Brunson works at a secret military institute, from which employees have begun disappearing over the past two years. One day, while sitting in a cafe, Brunson overheard a conversation between two drivers about the fact that the body of a woman killed many years ago had been found near the city of Belston. Brunson suddenly remembers that twenty years ago he killed and buried a girl named Elaine LaFarque near Belston. Fearing retribution, Brunson goes on the run. But, like most criminals, he is drawn to the crime scene. Once in Belston, Brunson learns that no body was found here, and begins to doubt his memory. Who and why convinced Brunson that he was a killer?
