This is the second book in the “Masters of Fiction” series. The Polaris company, together with the Avots publishing house, continues to publish a multi-volume publication for fans and connoisseurs of science fiction. We are trying to fulfill our promises and are printing two works that have not yet been published in Russian. This is the novel by the famous English writer John Wyndham “The Kraken Awakens” and the novel by the famous American science fiction writer Clifford Simak “Space Engineers”. Wyndham is familiar to our readers as the author of the wonderful novel “The Day of the Triffids.” The name of Simak does not need advertising at all; it is enough to recall his works such as “Goblin Reserve” or “City”. Both published novels were written about forty years ago and are deservedly considered classics all over the world. However, real science fiction does not age; it is still read today with the same interest as it was forty years ago - you can see this for yourself. The story of the popular French writer Francis Carsac “Mountains of Destiny” and his novel “The Lions of Eldorado” have already been translated into Russian language, but are nevertheless included in this collection. Both works were published many years ago and have long become rarities, because they are written in the genre of adventure, adventurous fiction and in all respects are not inferior to the famous novels of Harry Harrison. In the near future, the publication of the “Masters of Fiction” series will be continued. We still intend to publish books by the most famous foreign science fiction writers, while trying to reflect the diversity of science fiction literature and surprise the reader with something new.
