The Latvian riflemen were among the first soldiers of the revolution. The collection of articles offered to readers tells how and why a significant part of the military personnel of the Latvian formations of the Russian Army greeted the revolution with approval and became praetorians of the new Soviet state. Much attention is paid to the participation of Latvian units in combat operations against the White army and interventionists on various fronts of the Civil War; the fate of famous Latvian commanders and political workers is also discussed.
